I fell in love with the printed fabric from Hobby lobby which was bought for my No sew cushion covers, (http://stylemyabode.weebly.com/blog/no-sew-shower-curtains-for-windows) that I decided to have the same for my living room window curtains.
I wanted to mix n match the curtain so bought a shower curtain which went well with the colors in the fabric.
The fabric was 45" wide, I bought 4 yards, 2 yards lengthwise for each side. I added another 12 inches to the bottom using the shower curtain to get the desired length.
Steps:
1. First of all hem 1 inch from both the top and bottom sides of the fabric pieces using iron-on hem tape.
2. Then I cut the shower curtain lengthwise into 2. Make sure that you get the same width as of the fabric piece. I got a piece 47" wide when I cut lengthwise, otherwise try cutting the shower curtain breadth wise. Leaving 1 inch on both sides for hemming, it would be a 45" piece matching with the fabric. Hemming the shower curtain was little tricky as it was a polyester material. I applied low heat on the iron making sure the material is not melting.
3. Now to join both pieces use the iron on hem tape for bonding.
4. It is now time for pleating. I made 5 equal pleats by carefully folding the fabric. Once you are sure of how many pleats you want, simply run hot iron over the pleats for staying folded and stiff.
5.Once the pleats are ready, it is time to make straps. The equal length straps made by folding and hemming the fabric were stitched to the inner side of each pleat.
These colors go well with my turquoise table, I would definitely try again..
