I had this well carved octagon shaped table from a garage sale and has been serving as a side/coffee table for last 1 year..It is a solid piece however I wasn't a big fan of the light colored wood or those gold trim along the legs..
I knew it had the potential to be loved again, so started to look out for the right shades and came across the Shabby Chalk paint collections in one of my nearest vintage shop.
For those who are not familar with Shabby chalk paints - They are chalk paints with absolutely zero VOC (Volatile organic compounds) which means you can safely paint it indoors without worrying about fumes or kids around. Also they do not need primer or sanding, it can be applied directly to any cleaned surface and they just adhere very well. Apply wax and then distress if you like.
I went for Dynasty Blue, you might be thinking I am crazy to paint it blue.
I could have painted it white or grey, but knew those are not my choices... I just went for what my gut feeling said..HAPPY BLUEE..
First I thoroughly cleaned the table, unscrewed the legs as I didn't want to paint over the nails.
I applied 2 coats of paint and believe me it was bright blue. Then applied FolkArt antique finish wax to dull the color little bit..

My husband loved it when he walked in from office that evening..My son was yelling it is a new table!! What more should I need :)
My advise is go with what you love, be brave to experiment. Be crazy enough, you don't need to go with the so called "normal standards" always...
This was my first chalk paint project and I loved working with shabby paints. They are perfect for indoor projects especially in winter. They are very affordable, easy to work with, gives a good finish and no worries of getting scraped or scratched..I would definitely do this again!!!!!!!!
